On Friday, March 1, Dr. Gerstein will serve as the interface between science and public policy. Based on his background and the importance of the issue, he will discuss the issues surrounding publication of bird flu studies, and its relationship to research ethics, export control, dual use technology regulations and the implications on international research collaborations. On Thursday, February 28, Dr. Puglisi will discuss the need for reform of the Common Rule, the distinction between quality assessment and similar activities and research, and the difficulties of conducting collaborative research in VA.
